Amsterdam is magnificent at any time of year and it's not surprising that Amsterdam is one of the most visited cities in Europe. Photogenic sites are everywhere. Explore the beautiful canals and bridges, wander around narrow streets and be amazed by the city's beautiful and well-preserved architecture. There are so many things to do. Lively squares and marketplaces, inviting canal-side restaurants, friendly brown bars and cosy cafes are everywhere around the city. There are plenty of great museums, famous art galleries, theatres and music venues to visit. And so much more...
Famous Windmills and scenic historical villages
Do not miss the famous windmills of Zaanse Schans on the Zaan river. This picturesque site is easily accessible by bus or even by bike from our place. Other must-see locations in a very short distance, are the lovely village of Edam (world-know from the cheese), harbour-town of Volendam (famous of fabulous plates of seafood), the photogenic island of Marken. Moreover, don't forget to experience forever friendly villages, Broek in Waterland and Monnickendam, both one of a kind and characterized by an authentic old-Dutch village atmosphere.
Rent a bicycle
For so many, the best way to explore around and obtain the real Dutch experience is to hit the road by the bicycle. Not only Amsterdam but many charming villages are easily reached by bike (Yes, we do rent bikes!). Pedalling through the green fields, over the bridges and canals, passing by the pastures of grazing animals is an unforgettable experience that is something unique, must be experienced in the Netherlands. We 're happy to guide you to find the best trails. Take the fantastic ride around the city centre of Amsterdam, or experience a Historic Lansmeer Route pedalling through the Het Twiske nature reserve, passing the beautiful country-side landscapes (you wouldn't believe you are so near Amsterdam!) and sightseeing the landmarks. Or choose to make a day adventure for riding to beautiful villages such as Broek in Waterland, Monnickendam, Volendam, Marken, Edam, Zaandam...
Het Twiske nature reserve is a "hidden gem" away from the crowds, just next to us. The park 650 hectare in size and it comprises centuries-old polder landscapes, green meadows with flowers, freshwater peat lakes (perfect for a swim on a hot summer day), sandy beaches, various hiking and bicycling trails, and wonderful spots for setting picnic just in a waterfront. At the south side of the park, you'll discover the Twiske Molen windmill, a remarkable feat of 16th-century engineering. Bicycling/hiking through the park is always a great experience. Trails cross the water over the bridges, passing the beautiful landscapes filled with a diversity of birds, and fields filled with hopping bunnies (especially in evening time), and you may find yourself observing grass-eating Scottish Highland cows. Furthermore, Het Twiske offers many activities such as kayaking, sailing, windsurfing, SUP, and diving. For the smallest family members, the park has a few excellent playgrounds and also domestic animal farm to visit.
